„The survivor“
Flicco was rescued in July 2021.
When we first encountered Flicco, he was suffering from severe TVT (Transmissible Venereal Tumor). Tumors covered large parts of his body, including his eyes, leaving him unable to see. Due to immense fear and a complete lack of trust in humans, it took a very long time before we were finally able to secure him safely. Flicco had clearly been through extreme suffering.
After his rescue, Flicco underwent intensive medical care, including chemotherapy. The treatment was long and demanding, but today, Flicco is fully healed from TVT. His physical recovery is nothing short of remarkable.
Emotionally, however, Flicco carries deep scars. He does not trust people, and even after all these years, he has not been able to form a trusting relationship with humans — including us. It is clear that Flicco wants to trust, but something inside him prevents him from crossing that line. We have continuously searched for experienced trainers and behavioral specialists, including outside of Morocco, but unfortunately have not yet found the right professional support for his very specific needs.
Due to his anxiety and the resulting protective behavior, Flicco cannot be placed in a home and is not available for adoption. He remains under our permanent care, where his boundaries are respected, his needs are understood, and his safety — and the safety of others — is ensured.
Flicco was likely born in October 2019. While he may never live the life of a family dog, he is a powerful reminder of what animals endure on the streets and how survival itself can be an act of immense strength. At our refuge, Flicco will always have a place where he is protected, respected, and allowed to exist on his own terms.
(We are aware that Flicco’s case requires exceptional experience and understanding. If you are a professional dog trainer or behavior specialist with proven experience in working with deeply traumatized, fearful, and defensive dogs, and you believe you could help Flicco take even a small step toward trust, we would be grateful to hear from you. For the right professional support, we are willing to cover flight and accommodation expenses to make such collaboration possible.)
