“Please Don’t Hurt Me”
Coney was rescued in October 2021.
Coney was one of many dogs rescued during a mass killing in Chefchaouen. He was taken by the dog catcher, and only just in time, we were able to free him from the truck before he met a terrible fate. While Coney survived, the trauma of this experience has left deep emotional scars and has made it difficult for him to trust people.
Coney’s past holds very little kindness, and this shows in his sensitive and fearful nature. Direct or prolonged eye contact makes him uncomfortable and can cause him to withdraw or bark as a way of protecting himself. Despite this, there is hope. A few of us are able to approach him calmly and gently, and he allows touch – small moments that mean everything to us.
Coney longs deeply for connection and affection, but trust does not come easily to him. Too much has happened in his life. His quiet sadness is visible in his eyes, yet behind it lies a dog with the potential for deep loyalty and attachment. With patient, dog-experienced people who understand fearful dogs and respect his boundaries, Coney could one day become an incredibly devoted companion.
Coney was likely born in November 2020. We hope that one day, the right person or family will step forward to give him the chance he deserves – a chance to finally feel safe, understood, and loved.
