Watson was rescued in 2024 after Leeny found him lying on the side of a road in the village of Derdara, near Chefchaouen. He was lying in his own feces, surrounded by flies, unable to move, and had likely been there for many days. Severely malnourished and weak, his body was already infested with maggots.

A rope was still tied around his neck, showing that Watson once had an owner. We believe he was hit by a car and left behind, waiting for help that never came. Many people passed him every day, but no one stopped.

Leeny lifted him into her car and rushed him to the refuge, where he received emergency first aid and all the maggots were carefully removed. Watson survived — but he had suffered serious damage to his spine.

Then something extraordinary happened. Slowly, with time, patience, and care, Watson began to walk again. Although he still lives with a mobility disability, he regained his independence and his joy for life.

Watson’s story has a happy ending. He found a loving home, where he is now deeply cared for, safe, and cherished. He was a very special dog — gentle, wise, and full of quiet strength. We all miss him dearly, but nothing makes us happier than knowing he finally has the forever home he deserves.
