Maua was rescued in 2025 from the streets of Tetouan. She had been living alone as a tiny puppy beside a pharmacy, watching people pass by each day — friendly, gentle, and waiting for someone to notice her.
While on the way to buy medicine for the refuge, Leeny saw her and simply couldn’t walk past. She carefully picked her up and brought her back to the safety of the refuge, where Maua finally received the care she so desperately needed.
Maua was suffering from ehrlichiosis and severe mange, but with treatment, patience, and love, she began to transform. After just five weeks, her beautiful coat started to grow back — and so did her joy for life. Maua got her beautiful name from a volunteer who fell in love with her during her stay. (Second picture)
